This week in Class: 6D Effect, Video Editing, and Law of Accelerating Returns
Technology Advancing with 6D Effect & Accelerating Returns Law
This week in Technology for Leading and Learning we studied The 6D effect and its relevance in the modern world. We also looked at how to edit videos using Adobe Express. There were many different ways to trim, combine, and get creative with different settings for the videos. I ultimately decided to use the two separate videos I record to combine them into one and crop out a section that I did not need.
The 6D effect is interesting when it comes to the way things in technology advance. The 6 "Ds" in the 6D Effect stand for "Digitalization, deception, disruption, demonetization, dematerialization, and democratization". I think one of the most fascinating parts of this effect is the deception and how this plays a role on society. As a society, we are changing and growing as technology develops around us. It can definitely be deceptive at times what new technology is going to come out and change the world forever. Before we had smart phones we relied on computers to research our questions and look information up. And prior to computers, we had to use physical resources like books from a library to expand our knowledge.
I really enjoyed learning to process to edit videos in Adobe Express, and had fun conducting interviews too! In the first video I recorded for this weeks project, I did not need to edit too much out. I was content with the flow of it and how it felt pretty natural. Using this application was fairly simple and I enjoyed being able to see what other people created with their creative minds. Here is the first video I took:
In the second video I recorded, I needed to make some trimming. Using this effect was fairly simplistic and I was able to edit my video clip of the second interview in a matter of seconds. Here is the video beforehand:
I was proud of the final results after messing around with the video editing effects and tools. Below is the final product of the project I was working on.In this unit of the course, we also looked into the law of Accelerating Returns. This law, created by Ray Kurzweil, states that technology will continue to grow exponentially as years go by. Kurzweil essentially was building off of Moore's theory which explained how computers, smartphones, and other modern devices were going to become less expensive, smaller, and better, and that this would occur every two years. These laws shaped the way that we look at technology in many ways, especially for future careers. For my future career, I plan to go into medicine, and knowing that technology will continue to expand and become more accessible to people while improving means that more knowledge will be available. I think that technology improves our lives and by learning new ways to use it we can benefit ourselves and others.
